McKinney, TX – Steak N Shake

The venerable Steak N Shake (“Famous for Steakburgers”) has been around since being founded in 1934 in Normal, Illinois.   They now have over 500 outlets in 22 states in the Midwest and East.    SNS claims to have the finest burgers around, grinding “steak” into pucks and frying them on a very hot grill.  The burger is known for having crispy edges, which I like, served on a toasted bun.

Their shakes are still hand-dipped ice cream and milk concoctions;  they claim they are “the finest shakes on the planet.”    The chain is also know for their variety of chili dishes, including “Chili 5 way” –  chili, extra meat, special sauce, diced onions, shredded cheese over spaghetti noodles (must be tough to eat when going thru the drive-thru!);  Steak franks (ground sirloin beef dogs);  and a host of other sandwiches, like a Patty Melt.

All sandwiches are served with their crispy shoestring fries;  cheese fries, rings, other sides like baked beans, slaw, soup and chili available.  Following QSR trends, they offer five different slider size burgers, which they call “Shooters.”

  1. Steak N Shake – had forgotten them from Illinois day (close to twenty years ago). Do they still come on REAL (not paper) plates?
