Petaluma, CA – Three Cooks

It says a lot, I believe, when you can return to a favorite place more than a decade later and find a place you liked still in business and still dishing up the cuisine that so firmly implanted the establishment in your grey matter.

For my pal Mr. Portland Deal Maker Attorney Extraordinare, Three Cooks in Petaluma rang his bell.

We were off on a weekend long business excursion to the Bay Area, and the Petaluma exit loomed in front of us at breakfast time one day. Mr. PDMAE had a fixation with their Eggs Benedict, so off US 101 we flew, in search of a reprise of this experience for him.

We found the address using Google on the phone, and circled the block looking for parking. Parking proves to be a challenge in downtown Petaluma on weekends, but we squeezed in the adjacent parking lot, and were seated immediately, despite the Saturday morning crowd.

The menu “warns” of huge portions, duly noted, and an adjacent diner’s order of French toast cut Mr. PDMAE’s eye this time, he went with that, and tho it was a tough decision for me, I went with Linguica and eggs, for the 2nd time in as many weekend Bay Area outings. I did seriously contemplate just ordering three sides of different breakfast meats, but believed that might appear a little de classe to Petalumians. I like to make an impression on locals. LOL.

The breakfasts were mighty fine all the way around, and I could see how the tiny place, short on square footage, but long on serving size, was stuck on replay in my pal’s memory.

It will linger in mine, as well, and I’ll be back to tackle another menu item or six in the future.
