I Try (and fail) to Make Gyro-Burgers

So I have all this ground lamb, which ordinarily I don’t care for, I’m trying to think of ways to pep it up and make it interesting.  Hmm, sez I, I do like gyros, maybe I could make a gyro burger?

So I scour the internets for recipes and find a few that look interesting.  Here’s what I ended up blending into a pound of ground lamb:

1 1/2 teaspoons oregano
1 teaspoon dried mint
1 teaspoon thyme
1/2 teaspoon basil
1/2 teaspoon marjoram
1/2 teaspoon minced onion
1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
1  squirt of lemon juice

I let it stew in the ice box for 4 hours, before shaping into 1/3 pound patties and tossing them in the cast iron.

After the requisite amount of time, I plated one, cut it in half to look at, before taking a bite.

I would say………….(drum roll)…………….REMINISCENT of a gyro, but not quite on the mark.  Too herby, not enough depth.  I think if I doubled the ingredients, that would have a more significant effect on the flavor, but it wasn’t what I was looking for.
Do you have a different gyro seasoning recipe?  If so, please share it!
