Portland, OR – Fire on the Mountain

Another happy event brought to us by Delivered Dish in Portland.  (Other Delivered Dish experiences here, almost all positive).

Fire on the Mountain (FOTM)  is the self-proclaimed the wing authority of Portland, and I’m not one to argue, being as I’m not a wing nut. (Great pun, eh?).

But Mrs. BDB is, and we ordered some wings, tenders, chili fries, a bunch of sauces, and a side of chili cheese fries to be delivered to Casa del Burger.

I won’t bore you with the history of Buffalo wings, I’m sure you’ve read it a hundred times elsewhere.

“Tenders” is generally used to describe strips of breast meat, fried, and in this case, doused with the same sauces one might opt for in the wing world.  There are “tenders only” chains in other parts of the country;  one of the more successful ones is Raising Canes, the brainchild of some students at LSU in Baton Rouge.

At FOTM, you’re offered a variety of sauces / flavors which you can have your wings/tenders dipped in, and/or get them as a side of dipping sauce.

For the dousing, we chose traditional and cilantro lime for the wings, and jerk and spicy peanut for the tenders.  Sides of ranch or blue cheese dressing accompany all choices of course.

We ordered an (ample) side of traditional celery sticks, as well as trying out their chili cheese fries (small, which was more than ample).  The fries are good, the chili so-so.  My own personal preference for chili on fries is a meatier, bean-less version.

The quantities (9 wings, 5 tenders) were on the larger size as a personal serving. If we had dined in, I probably would have ordered less, but as it was, we had enough for seconds the next day.

I’d try them again.

FOTM menu is online.
