A little off-topic, but I like popcorn as a snack. While I rarely, if ever, actually endorse a product, I want to crow a little bit about Pop Weaver Popcorn.
Founded in 1928 by Ira Weaver, the Weaver Popcorn Company is one of the nation’s largest popcorn companies, and is still operated by members of the family.
They are based in Central Indiana, and source their corn from local farmers. Pop Weaver is their major brand, and they also produce the “Trails End” brand sold by Boy Scout troops around the U.S. in their fundraising efforts.
Weaver is one of the few companies that uses Canola oil, a healthier choice than many other fats. Sodium content is described as “medium.”
So what’s the big deal? Quality and VALUE. I’m all about value, and Pop Weaver generally clocks in at about half the price of big name microwave popcorns. Yesterday I purchased the 20 portion box for less than five bucks. The product is largely sold in discount stores, and they have a locator on their site. The product comes in a wide variety of styles and flavors.
I like it, it pops up quickly and evenly. Few old maids, no burned kernels. The salt and butter flavors are to my personal liking, and it’s a far cry from the days we used to throw popcorn kernels in brown paper bags, toss them in the microwave and hope that they didn’t catch on fire (which was often!).
I support family-owned companies, and especially those in the food or ag business. So go buy a bunch of Pop Weaver popcorn.
