Kitchen Experiment – The “Slim Jim” Style Burger

Visited the factory outlet store for Jack Link’s this summer;  makers of jerky, beef sticks and other snack products.  Ended up with a couple of large bags of bits and pieces of beef sticks, a beef/pork snack stick ala Slim Jim’s.

Was trying to think of something to do with them, and ended up pouring a cup of them in a food processor with one egg and two T of bread crumbs – made into a patty, fried in a skillet.

The fail part was one egg wasn’t enough to hold the mixture together, and as you can see from the second foto below, there’s a lot of fat that comes out in the cooking, making it even harder for the patty to stay together.

Flavor- I liked it.  As beef snacks are already cooked (smoked), the pan frying is overkill, and the patty gets very dry from the cooking process.  It does develop a nice crust, tho.   I’ll try again sometime in the future with a different recipe.
