Poutine Burger Review – Duluth, MN

7 West Taphouse ReviewWe profiled 7 West previously, the Duluth burger and brewpub.  Now on the verge of opening a second location across the bridge in Superior, Wisconsin, they’ve amped up their burger offerings and today we took a look at the Poutine Burger.  The menu describes it as “french fries,” fried cheese curds, and brown gravy atop two beerburgers.”

It always struck me as odd that poutine, a favorite snack of Canadians, was never available in Duluth, so close to the Canadian border, but lately, it’s popping up everywhere around the Twin Ports.

No complaints on the ingredients or execution with this burger, other than the curds were deep fried, and the traditional recipe calls for “fresh” curds (known as squeaky cheese in some quarters).  According to the server, beef patties are purchased from Apperts, a St. Cloud, MN processor.

Started with deep fried pretzel bites and a mustard dipping sauce.  A number of dipping sauces are available ala carte for the adventurous!  Full menu here.
