Your typical American story – 16 year old works for burger place in Santa Barbara, saves his tips, buys the joint four years later, ropes his brother into coming in on the deal, thirty odd years later, they have one location for each year they have been in business – spanning the length and width of California.
Santa Barbara is a hot bed of concepts that take off – Sambo’s…..Kinkos…..now the Habit. The brothers reinvent the business, fresh beef ground daily, bakery rolls, hand-cut vegetables, a chargriller, where every ‘charburger’ starts its life, before being finished off on the griddle.
I sampled the wares at the location in Woodland Hills, CA, right on the boulevard, near the end of Woodland Hills, actually.
I went with the plain charburger, you can check out other menu variations here.
They have good, crisp fries, and a bit of a “fixins” bar, particularly if you’re in need of a variety of peppers for your burger.
There has been a restaurant for years in West L.A. called “Hamburger Habit.” No relation.
If you are burgering your way through California, be sure to get “the Habit.”
