Love gyros, love burgers, why not combine them, thought I? I have been screwing around with seasoning blends on this for a couple months, and have figured out one I mostly like. Still missing something, tho.
1 lb ground lamb
1 T powdered garlic
1 T parsley
1/2 T ground coriander
1/2 t cumin
1/2 t cayenne
1/2 t savory
1 t Greek oregano
1/2 t marjoram
1/2 t rosemary
Beat the egg with a whisk, and stir in the herbs. Mix this in to the ground lamb, and add panko as needed. Let mixed meat stand in frig an hour or two to allow flavors to disperse.
Hand form into 4 thin patties, and cook using your favorite method and to your liking.
Serve on buns or in pita, with tzadziki sauce, lettuce and tomato, for dressing.
Now, I didn’t have tzadziki, and there is a guy around the corner who sells it, but he is open irregular hours, and right now wasn’t one of them. So I punted. A dollop of sour cream, with dill weed, and a few drops of pickle juice from a jar….and some diced dills.
For what I was trying to accomplish today, this was adequate. The burger? Pretty good. Still looking for a ‘stronger’ gyro flavor.
And yes, I like cheap buns sometimes. The buck a package kind. Yeah, and paper plates. So what. lol
