Nestled in the heart of Taipei, within eye shot of the 101 Tower, one of the newer outlets of the Euro chain Belgian Beer Cafe gets raves for their brews and grub. The 50+ outlet chain, with locations across Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and now in North America, celebrates the quaffs and food of the Benelux region.
With a warm and inviting atmosphere, each location boasts its own decor. The menu is anything but typical pub food, with a variety of interesting appetizers and entrees, each with a suggested beer pairing. One cool thing about the menu portion of the website is that each listing is accompanied by a recipe, so if you’ve a craving for cheese croquettes, now you can construct them at home fairly authentically.
A wide variety of authentic Belgian beers are available at each cafe, and the servers are knowledgeable about their origins and taste profile.
The Cafe offers one of my favorite dishes, one that is getting increasingly hard to find in the US, steak tartare, made from high quality minced beef with egg, seasonings, and the proper accompaniments.
Although my favorite Steak Tartare is served at the Foreign Correspondent’s Club in Hong Kong, to me, it’s one of those dishes that I’ve never run into a bad version of – like them all.
