Always in search of food under a buck, I came across a large selection of Lean Cuisine sandwiches and entrees that hit that price point recently. Today I sampled the Philly Style Steak & Cheese Panini, which boasts the following ingredients on the box:
Beef steak, red & green peppers, onions, and cheddar cheese sauce on sourdough bread. The photo on the box looks fairly appetizing.
The instructions call for 2 min 45 sec in the microwave, and allow to rest for one minute longer. You perform this operation on Lean Cuisine’s “Revolutionary Grilling” ™ tray.
Here’s what the sandwich looks like prior to nuking. The 6 oz sandwich weights in at 320 calories, a quarter of your daily sodium requirement, 39 carbs, and 9 grams of fat.
Not particularly “lean” cuisine on my own personal diet.
It wasn’t all that unappetizing. I added dill chips and garden tomatoes to the sandwich, which came out of the microwave rather limp, but “crisped up” as time went by. It nearly got to the stage where I would call it ‘toasted.’
The flavor is ok, kind of skimpy on ingredients, but for the price? A deal.
Mrs. Burgerdogboy kind of went crazy in this section of the frozen foods yesterday, so there will be more Lean Cuisine reports in the future.
